The Rapture: Taken or Left Behind-That Is the Question

3/29/2012

In the well known parable of the wheat and the tares, Y'shua said that the tares "would be gathered first." Y'shua also prayed that his followers not be taken out of the world. Again, as in the days of Noah, the flood came and "took" them all away. Likewise two will be in the field. One will be "taken" and one will be left behind. Two women will be grinding. One will be "taken" and one left behind. Is the rapture teaching really consistent with Y'shua's teachings and the rest of scripture? Take a look at the weight of evidence and judge for yourself if the rapture is scripturally supported or merely based in fictional books and movies.

Good message to encourage all believers to thoroughly think the rapture doctrine through. I agree we shouldn't let this separate us in our fellowship if we have different views. I guess you could say I'm all over the map on this subject-was at one time pre- trib now leaning more towards prewrath. I find the taken or left behind subject very compelling but it concerns me that it doesn't seem to be clearer in scripture. On the one hand I can view Noah's ark as an escape-a pavillion if you will.
Then again I can view it as evil being "taken out". Lot's story seems like an escape to me as they hurried to avoid destruction from Sodom. Thanks guys for inspiring me to study more!
You may have mentioned this in another program but regarding the thief-- is there something about binding the "strong man" (satan) that comes into the view that the evil ones are taken out and we are left behind? I have always thought that God hides us in a "pavillion" while all wrath is happening. Can't remember where the scripture reference is for that- but I think it's in Psalms.

Thank you Carol. I'm glad that you enjoyed the program. You might enjoy some of the other topics that we have done in this series.

One of the main points that we were trying to show regarding Matthew 24 is that those taken away is compared directly to the ungodly that were taken away by the flood. Unfortunately, normally the verse is taken out of context and turned around backwards from the plain meaning of the text.

This may have been one of the passages that you were referring to:

Matthew 12:28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you. 29 Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house. 30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.

As to the one in Psalms, I'm not sure which one that you mean. The English word wrath is used a lot in Psalms and the rest of the scriptures.

Thanks again for listening. Hope to see you around again soon.

scripture verse I alluded to:

“For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion: in the secret of His tabernacle shall He hide me; He shall set me up upon a rock” (Psalm 27:5).

So I'm questioning if God hides us while here on earth or takes us away to a "pavilion" for safekeeping while the judgements are being poured out.
I've always had a problem with the teaching that says we are raptured outta here for a seven year honeymoon while all h--l is breaking out here on earth.
Seems to me what you all presented was a view that while we may not have the total answer to how this will unfold, we should look at what we've been taught and see if it lines up with scripture.

Yes Carol. That is what we are hoping to do. We recognize that we don't have all of the answers or see the full picture, so we think it wise to consider all options and see what the total weight of evidence is. I try to be as objective as I can and be open to seeing something different that I have not considered. Also, I think that many of the models that we have inherited do not pass the test when scrutinized.

Yes, I believe that the Creator has hidden people many times in the past and will continue to do that if they are abiding in covenant with Him. However, we have to recognize the difference between persecution by the enemy and the Creator's wrath. If we abide in Messiah, I believe we will be protected from the Almighty's wrath. However, by cleaving to the testimony of Y'shua and keeping the commandments, we become a target for persecution and possible martyrdom. Thanks very much for your thoughts on this subject.
